For many years, the nation has been faced with increasing poverty, crime, violence, and drugs.Over time, the federal government has adopted several different programs to help aid in the fight against declining communities.We can see that sometimes they just do not work.The relationship between communities with high poverty levels and crime is strong.This has created a sense of urgency amongst city, state, and federal officials to develop new programs, which get to the underlying causes of the respective epidemics.Projects such as The Atlanta Project (TAP) and Boston against Drugs are just a couple of the many community movements that have stemmed from these issues.By understanding the correlation between poverty, crime, and violence, community leaders have learned to focus on the relationship between business and society, and has therefore given birth to these developmental programs.
In Georgia, communities decided o implement TAP.They rallied together volunteer groups, local businesses, law enforcement, and the government to help fight back and bring safety to the communities.It was a big challenge to bring all of these groups together to work toward one common goal.
There are many lessons to be learned by studying the Atlanta Project.A few of which are, although we are trying to do the right thing, does not mean it will turn out the way we plan.A clear objective of exactly what is trying to be accomplished must be in place before work begins.Research must be done before starting any project, cost, a list of priorities, and a specific place to start.Two of the biggest mistakes made were

that planners had started the project before their full game plan was in place, the other was they did not involve the communities before decisions were made for changes to their neighborhoods.In-turn they did not have the communities trust and support so many of the project's objectives were not met.
In summary, any project must have a clear game plan and the support of all stakeholders if it is to succeed.Businesses and organizations must continue to come together to enhance, and change communities, which will make a better society for everyone.
